Drunk Driving Down, Drugged Driving Up

A study done by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration conducted in 2007 revealed that less people in the U.S. are driving under the influence of alcohol. In a study of 11,000 drivers, only about 2.2% of the drivers had a blood alcohol level of above .08%. The disturbing finding, however, was that about 16.3% of those nighttime weekend drivers were under the influence of drugs at the time of the study. Marijuana, cocaine and prescription drugs were the main substances these drivers were under the influence of. The results of this study show that Americans are starting to understand the dangers of drunk driving but people have yet to learn about the dangers of drugged driving.

Alcohol and drug usage before driving can impair driving and lead to deadly results. Driving under the influence of either can be grounds for receiving a DUI. If you are impaired by any substance, do not drive! If you do drive, and you get a DUI, contact an experienced DUI attorney to help defend you.
